Summary

CCJRC Mission, Objectives and Tactics
CCJRC's mission is to reverse the trend of mass incarceration in Colorado. We also strongly oppose the for-profit, private prison industry and its presence in Colorado. Our current objectives are focused on:

1. reforming criminal justice policies at the state and local level that are fueling prison expansion with a priority on drug policy and parole/reentry

2. halting prison expansion and ending the use of private, for-profit prisons in Colorado

3. serving as a resource for people in prison and their families, and

4. building, empowering, and mobilizing an active statewide coalition

We are involved in public education, research, policy analysis, community organizing, coalition building, litigation and legislative campaigns.

The Dept of Corrections budget is $703 million, up from $70 million in 1985.

65% of women in prison are mothers of children under 18 years old.
