WHO WE ARE

CCJRC’s mission is to eliminate the overuse of the criminal legal system and advance community health and safety.

CCJRC is joined by people across Colorado to end mass incarceration and failed drug war policies. We’re advancing smarter approaches to public health and safety while repairing the damage caused by decades of over-criminalization.

A DRIVER OF CHANGE IN COLORADO SINCE 1999

CCJRC began in 1999 as the Colorado Prison Moratorium Coalition, in support of Senator Dorothy Rupert and Representative Penfield Tate’s groundbreaking bill to halt prison construction in Colorado. The goal was and remains to bring a community voice to challenge perpetual prison expansion and advocate for effective public safety strategies.

OUR WORK AT THE CAPITOL

For over 26 years, CCJRC has been a trusted and influential voice at the Capitol and in community.

We have won hundreds of legislative reforms, helped close seven prisons, and secured well over $120 million in investments in community-based treatment, reentry, crime prevention, and services for underserved survivors.
